Illinois Parents: Protect Your Child – Opt Out of Mandated Mental Health Screenings

A new Illinois law mandates universal mental health screenings (SB1560) in all public schools. While it may sound harmless, these screenings can easily be weaponized — undermining your parental authority, promoting values contrary to your faith, and placing harmful, permanent labels on your child. And once a child is labeled with a mental illness, that diagnosis often follows them for life.

From promoting values that contradict Scripture to undermining your parental authority to disproportionately harming Black families through higher DCFS interventions, this law poses serious risks.

Parents, you have the legal right to opt your child out of these screenings.

Legislative Trends Eroding Faith & Parental Authority in Illinois

Recent and proposed laws in Illinois reveal a clear trend toward expanding state control over education while undermining biblical values and parental rights. The Inclusive Curriculum Law (HB 246, 2019) mandates instruction on LGBTQ history and identity. The Keeping Youth Safe and Healthy Act (SB 818, 2021) imposes a statewide sex-education program that affirms LGBT identities from kindergarten through 12th grade.

Proposed measures are equally troubling, including the Homeschool Act (HB 2827, 2025), which would subject homeschool families to annual registration, state oversight, and curriculum review.

Whether passed, pending, or stalled, these bills expose the ideological direction of Illinois lawmakers — and their willingness to reshape K–12 education in ways that conflict with both faith and parental authority.

Parents must understand the spiritual, legal, and cultural stakes of all these policies that govern public education — and act now to protect their children.
