Academic Performance in Illinois Public Schools

Low Academic Achievement: Data from the Illinois State Board of Education shows that in the 2023-2024 school year, only 35% of Illinois students statewide met or exceeded proficiency in Reading, and only 27% did so in Mathematics.

In CPS, the figures were even lower, especially for Black students, with only 16% of students meeting proficiency in Reading and 8% in Mathematics. Thus, approximately $10 billion of taxpayers' funds go into a failing school system.

Graduation Rates: While Illinois boasts a graduation rate of around 88%, it is important to note that this figure includes students who may not be adequately prepared for post-secondary education or the workforce, as evidenced by remediation rates in college.

This data snapshot of Illinois public schools shows these children are not receiving adequate education. Why should we continue to support an incompetent education system? Do we really believe we can fix this? I think we're way past trying to fix a system in this state of abject failure.

Let's be clear: Illinois's public education is one of the worst in the nation. Our taxes are among the highest nationwide on education, and our property taxes fuel this critical engine of disaster.

Every year, billions of our hard-earned dollars are poured into this failing education system. According to the 2023 Illinois report card, Illinois spent $17,952, and CPS spent $29,400 per student. This is a concerning situation that we should all be supportive of change.

So, while our taxes continually increase, academic proficiency decreases? We simply cannot afford to overlook this wasteful investment.

Furthermore, homeschooling and private school families in Illinois significantly reduce taxpayer costs. Educating our children at home or seeking an alternative to government education alleviates the financial burden on taxpayers for schooling.

With the average per-pupil spending in Illinois public schools exceeding $17,000 annually, thousands of homeschooled students represent millions in savings for the state. We should all appreciate and support this financial benefit.

I know many of you, like me, don't see this as an investment in children's education but a fiscal health crisis that they can not justify, only pacify us with sobering propaganda of needing more to do nothing.

It's crucial to recognize that our children are not receiving a quality education. As taxpayers, we are contributing to a systemic failing educational system that causes our property taxes to go through the roof. Homeschooling and alternative education benefit both individual families and Illinois taxpayers as a whole.

Enough is Enough, it's time to #Exit2Protect!
